Summer Reading at MPL - June 1st - July 31st
|
Beat the "summer slide" with MPL's Summer Reading program happening now!
Studies show that children who do not read or have access to books during the summer lose up to 2 months of reading performance. All children, whether from low, middle or upper income families, may fall victim to the “summer slide” if not provided with summer reading opportunities |

Free Books!
Thanks to a grant from the Marion Community Foundation, a copy of The Sherlock Society is being provided to 4th and 5th graders across Marion County. The Marion Public Library is working with school literacy liaisons to distribute these books in late spring. This includes students in private, community, charter, and homeschool classrooms in Marion County. We encourage youth to bring their copy of The Sherlock Society to the event and book signing on July 23, 2026. Additional copies will be available to kids the night of the event, while supplies last. |

Read Too!
|
Let's Read 20 is committed to doing everything possible to get children to read. Children are natural imitators and do absorb and notice everything around them. Adults who are reading are teaching the youngsters around them that reading is important.
It is as essential to have a literate community for it to be a thriving community. Starting from birth to read to a child is habit forming and should continue through adulthood. Our Read Too campaign takes action to make sure adults understand they are the role models of the youngsters around them. Sharing their love for reading and being seen doing so speaks volumes to their little minds. Literacy matters at all ages. |
